Senior Counsel, Office of Counsel to the Inspector General

Michael Ira Joseph is a Senior Counsel in the Office of Counsel to the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C., where he has worked for the past 15 years. He serves as in-house legal counsel to the Inspector General regarding the Medicare and Medicaid programs under the leadership of the Chief Counsel. Mr. Joseph specializes in matters related to Medicare, among other HHS programs, and is the first-line legal advisor regarding the OIG hospital, home health, and inpatient rehabilitation hospital compliance audits. Prior to joining the OIG, Mr. Joseph spent 21 years in private practice specializing in health care and hospital law and medical malpractice defense. Mr. Joseph received a Juris Doctor with honors in 1987 from the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Science cum laude in Political Science/Psychology in 1984 from Union College in Schenectady, New York.
