Ted Lotchin

Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer, UNC Health

Ted is the Executive Vice President and Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer at UNC Health, where he leads the enterprise-wide compliance and privacy program for an academic and community health system with 18 hospital campuses, 50,000 teammates, and $6.5 billion in annual operating revenue. In this role, Ted provides strategic leadership on compliance, regulatory, and operational matters for Board members, senior executives, physician leaders, community partners, and other stakeholders. Before Joining UNC Health, Ted served as the Vice President and Chief Compliance & Privacy Officer at WakeMed Health & Hospitals, where he led the integrated compliance, privacy, internal audit, and information security program for a 1,200-bed community health system in Raleigh, North Carolina. In addition to his experience as a compliance and privacy professional, Ted spent almost 15 years in private practice with international health law firms such as K&L Gates, Arnold & Porter, and Hogan Lovells. He counseled a broad range of clients, including hospitals and academic medical centers, physician practices, ambulatory service providers, and pharmaceutical and medical device companies, on regulatory, reimbursement, and transactional matters, as well as on False Claims Act litigation. Ted also served as in-house counsel to a major academic medical center, where he advised deans, department chairs, and other senior executives on transactional and compliance matters related to network development strategies, patient centered medical homes, and accountable care organizations, as well as on clinical outreach, data privacy and security issues, and data breach response investigations. Ted holds a Juris Doctor from the College of William and Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law where he graduated Order of the Coif and served as Articles Editor for the William and Mary Law Review. He also earned a Master of Public Health from the Boston University School of Public Health and holds dual Bachelor?s degrees in Psychology and American History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ted is an active member of the North Carolina State Bar and District of Columbia Bar and has held numerous leadership roles with the American Health Lawyers Association and North Carolina Bar Association?s Health Law Section. He is a frequent speaker and author on cutting edge topics that are top of mind for compliance and privacy professionals.
