Cheryl Straup

Cheryl is an experienced compliance professional with more than 15 years of healthcare and corporate compliance experience. Those who work closely with Cheryl recognize that her commitment to compliance comes from a deep belief that doing the right thing is a representation of all of us striving to demonstrate the best parts of ourselves. Cheryl currently serves as the Compliance Officer and Privacy within her role as VP of Compliance, Audit and Privacy for Advocare, LLC. There she enhances the effectiveness of the compliance program by establishing multiple channels of communication to ensure that all members of the community maintain a better understanding of how to do the right thing. In addition, Cheryl conducts proactive risk assessments, effectively engages risk owners, and delivers transparent communications to drive education and awareness. Prior to her current role, she served as a Regional Compliance Officer in a national health system, with a large established physician practice group. This work experience, along with her other recent compliance leadership roles in local health systems has made her well-versed in the specific and varied needs to optimize physician practice compliance. Ms. Straup received her Master of Jurisprudence with a focus in health Law and Regulatory Compliance from Widener Law. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Counselor Education and Rehabilitation from Pennsylvania State University. She received her Certification for Healthcare Compliance in 2009, and actively maintains this certification today.
